Ever seen a praying mantis in a first blog post?

I thought it would be fitting that a young praying mantis, a rather cool looking an interesting creature should be my first post. Sandy is my son’s cool pet praying mantis and mine too by default.

Sandy, the praying mantis.

Have you ever even seen a first blog post?! Usually when you visit a blog, it’s already established, right? You wouldn’t just go to anybody’s Blog to see what they have to say. Well I’m excited that you’re here for my first blog post on my new website.

Yes, she is a bug. And she creeps my mom out. She says the legs are so skinny and creepy looking. But when Sandy is contained in the cage, she seems rather interested in checking her out, when she is behind a safely zipped up mesh cage.

in case you’re interested, where the name Sandy came from, it is named after hurricane Sandy, as my son is obsessed with hurricanes and tornadoes.

how did I know that Sandy was a girl? The female, mantises, or cannibalistic, and when the other nymph mantis molted, the next day he just disappeared. I guess she ate him like a softshell crab. Hence I came to know Sandy is a girl.

Sandy is my little muse. I get to really learn how to take a close-up of a subject on iPhone. Making sure that the camera angle is just right. I love photography and used to shoot canon DSLR, before it became too difficult for me to carry things with two forearm crutches, let alone set up a shot. Especially with a tripod. I’m getting really good at learning how to use the best camera that I’ve got. The one that I have in my hand right now.

With Sandy, I learned that no matter how big or small creature is, it is still a creature that has its own preferences, likes, and dislikes, and personality. I watch her sway back-and-forth like she’s in a breeze, and no one ever taught her that. It’s just instinctual.

So thank you, Sandy, for the inspiration to just take a leap of faith, Can anyone out there hear me? Let me know. Hope to hear from you.
