Being a Photographer and Loving to Teach, I Wrote the Book.

Visual Marketing and Smartphone Photography, by Me.

I went to take a photo And then it happened. Black screen. My camera was not recognizing anything in front of my phone. It happened in the parking lot at the gym yesterday when I was doing yesterday‘s blog post in the early a.m. I thought that it was not recognizing light, but in fact, there was something wrong with the phone. The camera was not working. I went to the AT&T store, where I bought the phone, and he ran various diagnostics And it was not working.  Because it is still under warranty, he told me that I could go to the AT&T store and speak to a genius, what they call their reps who help you troubleshoot your Apple problems.

So yesterday, I went to the store with iPhone in hand, prepared to get a new phone swapped out with this one, as the AT&T store manager said would probably happen. But, the genius girl said that all I would need was a phone camera replacement. I could keep the same phone, they would just replace the camera, I wasn’t too happy that the new screen protector I just put on the day before would be removed, but AT&T said they would give me a new one. So I waited in the back of the store, where they have an area where people can take classes to do various things on their iPhone, and learn how to make the most of their experience.

Apple Store Smartphone Camera Class

I happened to be at the hour where there was a class being given to learn the features of the iPhone camera. Like a flash, it hit me, I could be teaching this class.

Mind you, I do not want to be on my feet in front of an audience who is half paying attention because they are there to either fix their current Apple product or buy a new one. But it reminded me of how I wrote the book on visual marketing, which would empower people to use their smart phones for their businesses. Namely, selling people their product or service and using images they capture on their phones to enhance that. A picture is worth 1000 words.

In 2014, I wrote a book on smart phone photography that launched to number one on Amazon and its category in a day. It stayed there for some time, and as more and more books, come on the Amazon Market, it gets pushed down.  It’s ranking is really irrelevant now, it just made me remember about how I used to love doing just this people empowering people without to use their smart phones. And I could’ve been teaching this class.

Mind you, I was on my mobile scooter, because I did not want to walk that far in the mall on crutches and pay for it the next day, and make my mom walk really slow next to me as she was with me. She’s always with me helping, right by my side. I’m pretty lucky.

So it was like a revelation happened, I remembered I wrote the book on this topic, smart phone photography, and using your smart phone camera. The features have changed, and always will, my book was not Evergreen lasting forever. Any book on technology is going to be outdated, and I know this for next time. My next book topic, my next podcast, I am not done yet. I see now that my brain is getting charged with everything that I write about here and everything that I just sit and focus on. It is all in me, and you just have to dig to find out what you still are good, even great at. Having my smart phone camera break and be replaced was a great experience for me. I would’ve never been face-to-face with who I am. Someone who gets charged on empowering others, even if it’s about how to use your smart phone.
