Day 4 – CAR-T Therapy
My Most Amazing Day Yet

Today was the most extraordinary day of this entire journey so far. From the moment I opened my eyes to a golden sunrise over the city, I could tell this one would be special — calm, bright, and full of forward motion. Gratitude hit me before my feet touched the floor, and it carried me through the whole day.
Progress You Can Feel
The morning began with vitals and bloodwork, part of my new rhythm. For the first time, everything looked encouraging — my counts are rising, and I don’t need antibiotics. I’m still taking a long list of pills and daily shots to keep clots and infections at bay, but hearing “you’re doing great” was exactly what I needed.
Dr. Donato stopped by early. I told her I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop because each day keeps improving. She smiled and said, “That’s the way it should be. CAR-T patients are doing well.” That line stayed with me all day.
Small Things, Big Joy
After breakfast came something that felt absolutely life-changing — my first shower since being admitted. With a nurse nearby for support, I finally stood under warm water, washed my hair, and felt human again. It’s amazing how a simple shower can restore your energy and remind you who you are.
Movement, Prayer, and Momentum
Soon after, my physical therapist arrived — right as a hospital pastor stopped by, sent by Angel from the recreation team. The pastor prayed for me, and my PT quietly joined in. That small moment of unity filled the room with peace.
Then came a breakthrough: my first full hallway walk without stopping. The PT had a chair ready, but I didn’t need it. We looped the entire unit together, with a mobility tech following behind just in case. Back in my room, she guided me through exercises — hip flexion, abduction, stepping side-to-side, and assisted moves for my right leg. Every rep felt like a victory.
Healing Energy and Gentle Yoga
Later, a Reiki practitioner appeared at my door, saying someone had told her to come see me. The session was quiet, powerful, and full of light. I could literally feel my energy shift.
After that, I joined the Kula for Karma chair-yoga session, focusing on mindful breathing and the power of the pause. I met two incredible women — both recovering from major treatments — and we shared stories about hope, healing, and perspective. It reminded me how fortunate I am to be here and doing well.
A Heart Full of Gratitude
By lunchtime, my day had been overflowing with blessings: Reiki, yoga, PT, a therapy-dog visit, and a surprise visit from my friend Lisa. Tomorrow my mom will come by, and someone already asked if I’m painting my pumpkin — so that’s officially on tomorrow’s list.
Practicing gratitude doesn’t mean pretending everything’s easy; it means focusing on what is good. I’ve learned that the more grateful I am, the more good seems to appear. I don’t have time to feel sorry for myself — I’m too busy living.
Closing Thoughts
Today was filled with light — from sunrise to sunset, from laughter to stillness. Healing isn’t just medicine; it’s mindset, movement, and faith. I’m beyond thankful for the CAR-T trial, for the incredible team at Hackensack, and for everyone crossing my path.
Here’s to more mornings, more movement, and more gratitude. 💛
