Cleaning with Crutches – Staying Safe and Burning Calories.

Loading the dishwasher and staying safe
Swiffering with a vengeance on a crutch
Make sure your other crutch is where you finish!

Keeping a clean house is pretty important to me. I never want to invite someone over and say, “excuse my mess.”
Having hardwood floors also makes it easier to clean up spills, and makes it easier for me to get around, because my foot tends to catch on the floor with drop foot.
I used to just do quick cleanups with a swiffer mop. One bottle of cleaner would be in one hand, and the mop in the other. Then they invented the swiffer jet, which was a lifesaver, because you could just with one hand, hit a button to spray and the other to mop up what you just sprayed, and you could clean. They also had a hardwood floor cleaner, spray, which leaves it less streaky than the other generic cleaner. It’s still matters. How do you wipe up the floor with them up. It’s kind of like when you leave streaks on the window because you wiped it all over the place rather than straight lines in a pattern.
I had a stick vacuum, which was lightweight and not connected to a cord. It was a cordless stick vac. Until it fell to the floor and the bucket that holds the filter and collects the dust just cracked. No longer closed and was not very good. It was made by Bissell. I called them, as it was still under warranty, and they just sent me a check because they didn’t even make it anymore. So it wasn’t even me. It was just not well-made.
I went to purchase a new stick vac to replace that one, and there was this stick vacuum, called a shark vac mop. It had a disposable pad on the bottom, and also a spray. It seemed like a one stop shop. Stick vac that was cordless and a mop.
At first, I couldn’t understand how the vacuum worked, as I had only seen vacuums with a filter and a canister. But then I realized that all of the junk that it vacuums up goes into the disposable pad refill. And you throw that out
Considering that I have a dust mite allergy, and I’ve always battled sinus headaches because of dust buildup. I’m not allergic to dust. I’m allergic to the mites that live in it. Crazy, huh?
When I hold on with my left, Crunch, I can stand freely and vacuum, spray to mop, and then mop. Of course, with the shark vac mop, it’s best to do while you’re vacuuming first, then go back to the beginning to then mop what you just vacuumed. Otherwise, the mop head will slow down over the nail wet surface, making vacuuming, very difficult. The vacuum button is on the underneath, and the spray is on the top.
I’m also learning that I need to be more active during my day. When I look at the halo view app, which monitor is my heart rate and sleep activity during the day, I see that most of my activity is during the wee morning hours at the gym. Most of the rest of the hours of the day are sedentary. I tried this yesterday and watched my activity level go up. I am going to try this for the rest of the week and then report back to see if I have increased my activity level, and if it affects my energy level. Cleanliness is very important to me, but sometimes with mobility issues I can struggle. Thankfully, with taking a look at all the things I do and trying to get better every day, my life has really changed for the better.
Have you found a secret that changed your life because it’s just a better way to do something? I’d love to hear.
