Apple Picking is a Win

Apple picking is a Win.

I haven’t been apple picking for A few years now. not just pre-pandemic, but for a few years. It’s not that I wasn’t into it, the last time I went my son was two and we had a great time, but usually the temperature is too hot for me to enjoy. Even with a nice rest the time that I have is limited.

Yesterday we went apple picking for the first time since then. It was a much different experience for me, and I’m sure for all of us. I was much more mobile that I have been in the past, and although I had my motorized scooter, I was able to get out of it and up on my feet without being on my feet with leg pain, or foot pain. The weather was cool and there was a light breeze. They were clouds in the sky, but they were those pretty puffy clouds on a beautiful sunny day.

My son was off from school for two days, so my husband took off from work, and my mom hopped in and we all traveled down to East Coltsneck, NJ, to Eastmont Orchards.

We had a great time, and I was able to even pick apples off the tree.  I was even able to add to our collection of $60 plus worth of apples.

That’s a lot of apples!

It’s always nice to see family, which we did after our apple picking session and had a honey tasting with apple slices, which my son enjoys. It turns out that everybody there really enjoyed it, too. Maybe we can do a tasting of some kind every time we’re together.

My MS symptoms did not really act up yesterday at all. I went to the gym first thing in the morning, and got that out-of-the-way. That is a big win for me.

Get up on your feet.

One thing that helped me was keeping my fuel at an even level throughout the day. I brought snacks, low sugar healthy snacks and even energy bites from my husband who drove the whole way. That helps. Fuel the driver not just the vehicle, right?

And water, lots of water available to drink, that always keeps me at a good energy level, too.

I am glad that I decided to make the trip this year, especially one year after my surgery that was life-changing. I am able to move freely and walk around again, when I was pretty much not looking forward to anything that was outside where I would have to walk. Forget in uneven terrain. I even stepped away from the scooter to walk around a little bit. This was unheard of before.

Lots of apples to eat, cook and bake.  I look forward to it and being on my feet again to do so. Never take anything for granted. Even feet.
