Through His Eyes: A Day of Understanding and Joy

That’s my boy.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

If I could be anyone for a day, I’d choose to be my eight-year-old son, Sean. Navigating life as a child with autism while having a mom with MS presents its own set of challenges. Despite my struggles, especially with mobility and adapting to a motorized wheelchair, I admire how Sean finds joy in simple moments, like driving my wheelchair – showcasing his surprisingly adept driving skills. Sean’s perspective is unique; his autism doesn’t hinder him but paints his world in distinctive hues of intelligence and comprehension. Excelling in his third-grade class, Sean reads and understands material far beyond his years, demonstrating capabilities that astonish everyone around him. I yearn to experience the world through his eyes, to understand the intricacies of his thoughts and feelings. My own frustrations pale in comparison to what he might face daily, and I wish to gain insight into his vibrant, yet differently seen world, if only for a day.
