Flow, Space, and Accessibility: Navigating Home Life with MS in 2024

The Realization of Flow and Space
My journey this year started with a plan to embrace ‘flow’ in my daily life. However, a recent session with Insight Timer, guided by Alex Ellie, brought an enlightening perspective to my plan. It wasn’t just about creating a continuous movement in my life; it was also about understanding the importance of ‘space’. I realized that for true flow to exist, there must be enough space to move freely. This session didn’t just inspire me; it shifted my focus to include spaciousness as an essential element of my 2024 plans.
Reorganizing for Flow
In my quest for flow, I started with my living space. The closet in my bedroom was the first to tackle. The initial setup, a larger but less accessible closet, was more of a hindrance than a help. My husband and I switched closets, but even the smaller one presented challenges. Its position, opposite side of the bed, made access difficult. The solution? I plan to install a handrail for safety and declutter for ease of use. This reorganization was a step towards creating a seamless flow in my personal space.
Creating Space in the Kitchen
The kitchen was another area where I sought to create space. Cooking for my family is not just about meal preparation; it’s about creating moments of togetherness. By repositioning items like plastic containers to more accessible locations, I’ve managed to make the kitchen more functional and safe. Reducing redundancies, like an excess of cups, also contributed to creating a more spacious and welcoming environment for family gatherings.
Extending the Concept Throughout the Home
The concept of flow and space extends beyond personal areas to family spaces. In my son’s room, the challenge is to reorganize without disrupting his comfort. Starting with his closet, the goal is to declutter while respecting his preferences. The process is about more than rearranging; it’s about fostering an environment conducive to both flow and space.
Flow and Space: Two Sides of the Same Coin
Throughout this journey, I’ve come to understand that flow and space are intertwined. One cannot exist without the other. A well-organized space allows for the flow of energy, ideas, and movement, while a seamless flow requires the openness that only space can provide. This balance is what I aim to achieve in my home and life.
Your Turn: Flow or Space?
As I continue this journey, I wonder about your experiences. What do you find more essential in your life – the seamless continuity of flow or the openness of space? Do you see them as separate concepts or as interconnected elements of a balanced life?
